Pavan Kapoor to become new Deputy NSA

1990-batch IFS officer currently serves as Secretary West in MEA

Pavan Kapoor, a 1990-batch IFS officer who is currently serving as Secretary West in the Ministry of External Affairs, will become the new Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA), sources said on Thursday.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Kapoor's appointment to the post, they said.

Kapoor, a career diplomat, has served in various capacities in the Ministry of External Affairs and in Indian missions abroad.

He has also served as India's ambassador to China and Bhutan.

The Deputy NSA is responsible for assisting the NSA in coordinating and implementing national security policies and initiatives.

The NSA is the head of the National Security Council Secretariat, which is the apex body for coordinating national security policy and strategy.
